This is a very unique spirit that is one of only a
few mango distillates produced in the world.

Our Mango Eau-de-Vie is even more special because it is produced from mango fruits that are collected from the streets of Asuncion, the capital city of Paraguay. These street trees were planted throughout the city before the advent of air-conditioning to help provide much needed shade from the blistering Paraguayan sun. These trees produce hundreds of kilos of fruit each, but while these Criollo type mangoes are extremely sweet, their flesh is very fibrous. As such, very few are eaten and they pile-up in the streets and go to waste. It is estimated that some 3000 tons of mangoes go to waste the rotting fruits cause fly infestations, bad smells and stains on the sidewalks.

So, 3 young men formed a company called ReMango to help resolve this issue. They have worked with neighborhood “collectors” whom sift through the trash for cardboard, tin, aluminum and other recyclable materials that they then sell for cash. ReMango purchases the mangoes that these “collectors” pick-up from the streets and the company then disinfects, processes the fruits and then freezes the freshly squeezed mango pulp.

Our distillery, Legado Organic Craft Distillery, carefully ferments this mango pulp with select fruit brandy yeast. The resulting fermentation is then masterfully distilled twice in copper pot stills to produce this beautiful fresh mango eau-de-vie that is wonderfully fragrant and amazingly tasteful.

Mango Eau-de-Vie can be enjoyed like a schnaps, but its true magic lies as a mixer. Combined with fruit juices and/or sparkling mixers, the mango essence of the spirit transforms cocktails.

We are also barreling this same distilled spirit in American and French Oak casks and will be offering the resulting Mango Brandy starting in late 2023.
